Background

Cheryl is focused on helping people to surpass limitations and gain awareness of how to actualize their highest potential. As a psychotherapist, trainer and consultant she is inspired by the resilience of the human spirit. Her aim is to contribute in any way,  no matter how small, to healing the transmission of collective trauma. 

She is driven to working through the lenses of Attachment Theory, The Theory of Structural Dissociation, Ego State Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Mindfulness as she treats individuals presenting with complex PTSD, dissociative disorders and disorders of attachment. Her background in field of applied clinical research in infant mental health and attachment informs her work of addressing the impact left by unresolved intergenerational trauma. 

She holds certifications in parent-infant dyadic psychotherapy from The Anna Freud Centre and The NY Freudian Society.  At the Yale Child Study Center, she was a clinician for Minding the Baby, an early intervention clinical program promoting infant secure attachment. At the Yale In-Home Intensive Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services, IICAPS, she treated psychiatrically at-risk children and families. She was a therapist in the inpatient Eating Disorders Unit at The New York State Psychiatric Institute  and a clinician in the Parent-Infant Therapeutic Program at Metropolitan Hospital, NY. NY. 

She is currently a Certified Trainer for EMDR Trauma Recovery HAP and is an advocate for best practices in trauma informed care.  She contributes to Trauma Matters published by the CT Women’s Consortium. She also provides EMDR consultation to Approved Consultants in Training for the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, DMHAS. She is committed to bringing high-quality specialty trainings to psychotherapists in our area and is the creator of Inspired Therapy.  She launched and administrates the web directory, http://www.ctemdrtherapists.com.

Other areas of specialization include artistic creativity, peak performance, infant-parent psychotherapy, meditation and the mind-body-spirit connection to well being and optimal health.  She is dedicated to finding the best ways to experience an inspired life.
